Dovrefjell

Start

Late but not too late, after climbing up with some lightning and thunder, we managed to settle down high above the train station Kongsvoll.

Snøhetta

The north flank of Snøhetta, which we didn't climb. With regret we skipped the summit for not to loose time for the long march to Bjorli.

Panorama

The Stroplsjødalen, a broad valley, with the Snøhetta on the left side. For a period, this 2253 m high peak was believed to be Norway's highest mountain.

Musk

The Dovrefjell is one of two places in the world with a wild population of musk oxen, the other being Greenland.

Ptarmigan

The mother hen got a bit upset when I took this picture. Bad luck for them. Why do they camp out on the trail?

The sun is about to set, a nice time for a walk-around to take some pictures.

Plain mountains

The dominating mountain in the middle ought to be Stortverråtinden (1941 m). Stortverråtinden

Signpost

For us it's to the right. You can hardly go astray in Norway.

Sheep

It's almost always three of them. This Troika lives high up in Grøvudalen.

A beautiful valley with the river Grøvu.

Valley floor

Grøvudalen enchants us with a forest.

Ants

Giant anthills govern the Grøvudalen like castles, millions of ants roam the valley. How does anybody dare put up a tent in this forest, I don't know.

Grøvudalen

A last look into the valley that was shaped by glaciers during colder times. The sky becomes cloudy...

Camp

The same day after the storm, the sky is clear again. Time to dry.

Rainbow

This was the first sign of upcoming discomfort.

Clouds

We got wet to the bone. Watertight boots do what they are told and keep the water inside, which flows into them from above.

Lake

When fed by melting snowfields, the small lakes still held some water, like this in Krøsbotnen.

Upper Eikesdalen

The next morning the fog was gone and the sky clear again.

Good weather

In the evening we put the tent up at the very first place in a dense fog. Only in the morning we could look at the beautiful surrounding land, close to the Aursjøen dam.
